Call now!

On 28 February 2022, as the anniversary of the first Luxair flight to Paris Le Bourget on 31 March 1962 approached, the airline launched a call to artists from Luxembourg and the Greater Region to design its next special livery. The wait is over... discover the new #FlyingIsAnArt Anniversary edition livery!

#FlyingIsAnArt

For this third edition of #FlyingIsAnArt, artists were invited to convey through their creativity the essence of Luxair and the values it believes in: Luxair is proud to represent Luxembourg, a country with great prospects for the future.

Luxair's values are inclusion and diversity, but also boldness.

The competition was a great success and the company received more than sixty entries, each more original than the last.

Rebirth, future, tradition... so many illustrations that abound on Luxair's new special livery. Sketched by Luxembourgish artist Marco Weiten, this clever mix of colours represents the unmistakable Luxembourg symbol Roude Léiw, which has risen from its ashes like a phoenix to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Luxair.

"60 years of Luxair, of flight, of history, of power, of energy and competence, of serenity and of the will to give the best. Let's celebrate these 60 years together with this living design. Luxair's colours symbolically go through the different decades and unite in a strong Luxembourgish symbol, the red lion. It represents the tradition of Luxembourg, but here it rises from the ashes like a phoenix and all the colours converge in it, the dawn of a fantastic future. All together, we are a positive sign of respect, competence, teaching and practice. At 60 years old, Luxair is just starting to fly... the future is now", Marco Weiten.

Marco Weiten, who spent part of his childhood in Paris, is a Luxembourgish artist who has given back his letters of nobility to contemporary animal painting and who’s curiosity and interest were aroused by his visits to the Museum of Natural History and the zoo. The paintings often make the colours sing, giving rhythm to the outpourings of red, blue and yellow. The warmth of the pigments evokes nature and its wild magic. It is in nature that this artist draws his inspiration to make his acrylic colours sing an hymn, which stands out like everything that concerns youth and life.

Marco Weiten is also a graphic designer and illustrator of children's books and two of his stories (illustrations) "Klenge roude Léiw" and "Kouhandel mat der Wiederhex" have been made immortal in the form of castles of wonder in the Parc Merveilleux.
